A few weeks ago, Rishard reviewed BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, PART 1. I just got a press email from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment with this action packed first official image of Batman attacking the obese running to save the day in Part 2 of this excellent animated movie based on the classic Frank Miller comic (coming out in early 2013)! Looks pretty exciting! Check back after the release for our review!

New Animated Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (TDKR) was originally written back in 1986, and still to this day remains one of my favorite comics ever made. It put Frank Miller on the map for me as an amazing story-teller. Honestly I was never a huge fan of Frank Miller’s art style, but his writing is phenomenal. Continue reading
WTF Did I Just Watch!? #4
Wow….
Let me just start by letting you know that when I started this series, I didn’t intend to post so many so fast. Alas, it seems that people like them, so as long as I keep getting them sent my way, for the time being, I’ll share them with you!
This is going to be a two-fer. Thematically, they’re very similar. They’re also both definitely strange.
The first one, the Birthday Party, was sent to me by my good friend and Rocky Horror Legend, Larry Viezel. I don’t think anything needs to be said aside from “Just watch”. The second one, as you can imagine, was a straight link off the first.
To be honest, if “Spider-Man 3” were more like that, I think it would have been HUGE.
This next video isn’t anywhere NEAR as strange, it’s just odd mostly due to the facts that a) They’re at a pool? b) Tell me that Iron Man doesn’t look weird with his huge head?
…and there you go!
RIP Joe Kubert

Although I’ve only met you as a fan, you ran a school that honed the amazing skills inherent in a good handful of my friends, and the friends I’ve met through them, that they met through you.
That being so, you’ve sort of vicariously filled my life with a good many talented artists that never cease to impress me with their imagination and skill, I thank you for giving me that wonderful sense of pride in people I care about.
It may seem a weird tribute, but it’s an honest one, and one I can attribute to him on a personal level.
Just to give you an idea of the level of talent this legend of comics had. Well, for one, he ran the Joe Kubert School of Art here in NJ that many of my friends have gone to.
Aside from that, check out a couple of his “quick sketches”… (little known fact, although Kubert didn’t create Hawkman per se, he was instrumental in creating the Hawkman as we know his character today)

One of the awesome old weird covers of the golden age!

a lil’ Batman for ya…

Joe Kubert, thought, yes, you will be missed, your legacy will live on in the art of every student coming out of your school, and of course, all the wonderful art and imagination you’ve left in your wake.
Thank you.

Okay, I totally made up that word. Some things are obvious, like the level of awe you will express when you view the video of this cake.

French artist of film, photo, and of course, confections, Alexandre Dubosc created this masterpiece of animated (animatable?) cake as a tribute to fellow artist, Tim Burton. Most impressively, if the theme of it weren’t enough, Dubosc created an animated ring around the cake depicting the Bat symbol from “Batman” and a pumpkin which could be taken as a reference to either “Nightmare Before Christmas” or “Sleepy Hollow”, of which I’ll choose the latter in my own perception because on top of the cake is a revolving, smiling “Jack Skellington” face.
I hesitate to even refer to it simply as “cake”. Cake brings to (my) mind some sloppily iced mess (though granted, always delicious) that I make. This goes beyond cake as we know it. We’ve all, by now, seen the elaborate culinary constructions that seem to have found a place on every blog and feed and tv channel we may peruse, but I have yet to see anything that has impressed me as much as this.
