The Latest and Best ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer Yet!

If you haven’t yet heard of Pacific Rim, now is the best time to acquaint yourself with this fantastic new trailer released today by Warner Bros.

I cannot easily or calmly express how excited I am for this film.

From the production description:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

RIP: Ray Harryhausen LEGENDARY Special Effects Wizard

566px_full_ray-harryhausenToday, May 7th, 2013, a man whose impact on the imagination of billions, rivaling only that of Jim Henson, who it could even be said was himself influenced by him, Ray Harryhausen, has passed on.

Ray Harryhausen was the Special Effects legend behind some of the most fondly remembered and influential creations of the past century. He worked on some of the most beloved fantasy films ever made. I don’t think anyone familiar with his impact on cinema would argue that if it weren’t for Ray, films today would be nothing like we know them. Perhaps they would even be decidedly less wondrous. His imagination and dedication will live on forever.

Here’s a partial list of his more beloved films;

What Are Your Favorite 1-Shot Comics?

Comics bannerWe haven’t had a “Top 10” post in a bit. Everyone seems to love those, but there’s so many out there, coming up with an original idea for them can be a bit daunting. But now I’ve an idea, and I’d like you, our readers to help out building this one. Why am I turning to you? Have you ever read the comments on the lists out there written solely by the authors? EVERYONE has their own advice. I don’t consider myself a definitive authority. Yes, I love comics, but I know there are plenty I’ve never read.

So, email me at info (at) nerd-base.com and let me know your favorite 1-shots!! Fantastic stand-alone comics that you’ve read that stuck with you. They could be part of a series, but not part of a story arc.

When submitting, please include a quick review, images if you have any, and a link to your own blog/page/twitter if you have one so I can add attribution to the entry. The team and I will check out the reviews and pick from there.

WTF Did I Just Watch!? #8

Oddly, it’s been quite a while since I posted one of these. Perhaps it’s because I tried to find some really weird or awful videos to watch that none have jumped out at me as good enough to post. Perhaps I’m a little jaded, I mean, the internet at large will do that to you. But anyway, I didn’t want to post just ANY old weirdness here, and thank goodness I waited because boy, did I find a doozy!! Continue reading
