A tabletop game renaissance is upon us. With the success of the Unrivaled Tournament Series in Las Vegas this past November, many tabletop gamers have been left to their corner of the table eagerly anticipating the 2018 game lineup. Last year’s smash hit titles ranged from household favorites Ascension, Munchkin, and King of Tokyo to games of lesser-known popularity with Epic Spell Wars 2, Nevermore, and Villager & Villains. As the 2018 series looks to begin with finals taking place this August in Chicago, gamers from around the country are eagerly anticipating word on what games could help them win eternal glory (and a sweet payday). Now we can all just sit here and count our meeples, but I’ve compiled a list of the top five games I’d love to see in this year’s Unrivaled Tournament Series: Continue reading Unrivaled Tournament Series 2: Table Top Boogaloo
Our Lady of Cosplay this week was recommended by contributor Sarah! Meet Carrie Wink! She’s a beautiful, talented lady who’s been cosplaying for over a decade, has her own online business, and is a convention pro! She is quite the busy gal, and attends a good amount of conventions each year, so, we were thrilled to get an interview with her, and get our hands on some of her amazing pictures!
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
My name is Carrie Wink and I’ve been cosplaying for 11 years. I got into the hobby thinking it was Continue reading Ladies of Cosplay – Carrie Wink
This Lady of Cosplay didn’t even realize that she was a ‘cosplayer’ until people started labeling her as one! Meet Nicci Fett! Nicci is a friend of Nerd-Base founder Christopher, and it was obvious why we wanted to pick her as a Lady of Cosplay. She’s stunningly gorgeous, wickedly talented, and hilarious. Nerd-Base was lucky enough to get not only an interview, but a good amount of amazing photographs of Nicci doing what she does best (among other things, I’m sure). Showcasing her amazing projects that she wears, or, as the rest of us call it – Cosplaying.
Our second Lady of Cosplay is a super cute chick with the name Courtney Heavens, yes, Continue reading Ladies of Cosplay – Courtney Heavens
Here at Nerd-Base, we felt that our website was lacking something…a bit of lady love! We’re going to start featuring beautiful women who are amazing at cosplaying, as well as awesome nerdy ladies in general (Nerd-Babes).
It only seems appropriate that our very first Lady of Cosplay is Continue reading The Ladies of Cosplay – Victoria Cosplay
This weekend, Feb. 15-17, 2013 is the latest Wicked Faire expo/convention/partytime.
Held at the DoubleTree hotel in Somerset, it’s one of the biggest events held in New Jersey for those of alternative tastes/lifestyles and general rabble-rousers. If you like the Renaissance Faire scene, there’s something for you. Steampunk? Gear up ol’ Chap. Get those cogs appropriately placed on your lapels and make certain to pack extra goggles. Cyberpunk? Done (and you’ll definitely stand out). Goth? Punk? Rockabilly? Burlesque? Conspiracy theorist? UFO Enthusiast? Australian Post-Apocalyptic Leather-Clad Motor Gang Member? Brony? Raver? (okay, honestly, there’s really not a lot of ravers there, but let’s be honest, not really a bad thing is it?). The Wicked Faire has something for everyone.
It’s also a great event group to keep an eye on. They do the Steampunk World’s Fair, the Geeky Kink Event, and a new upcoming straight-up Geek con that, hopefully, we of Nerd-Base will have a presence at (if we can get some funds for it, but that’s another thing all together, more to come).
It’s a really fun way to spend the weekend. Bring your camera, bring some consumables, bring your fancy dress…heck, just bring yourself!!
Actually, perhaps I just let their press release speak for them: Continue reading NJ’s Wicked Faire: Revenge of the Renaissance Faire – Feb.15-17, 2013

My pal Nicci (aka in certain circles, Björn-Lagmancer) just signed up onto tumblr (where this site is hosted fyi). Here’s her blog. She just sent this to me, it’s pretty rad. For such a nut, the girl’s got some great (read: pretty sick) artistic costume/prop making skills.
She recently embarked on a venture to create her own Dragon Priest masks (which are pretty damned rad if not to dissimilar from the Death Eater masks in “Harry Potter” though a lot cooler) from Skyrim. She made a video, check it out! (FYI, she makes it look easy. Knowing her, I’m sure it’s just to poke fun at those who try to do the same, haha)
and finished after she had painted them:
To round out the post, here’s a pic of her in her Skyrim/Dovahkiin costume that she wore at a recent con (minding you, again, that she made herself).
I’m thinking I might have to commission her to make some pieces for me.
Follow the Nerd-Base! Still looking for contributors too!
