How to Protect Yourself Online as a Cosplayer

2016-11-29_10-39-04_3

Over the past decade now, cosplay has become one of the largest subsets of the geek/nerd community, both in and out of the convention scene. Faith recently reached out to Nerd-Base to write a guest post on how to protect yourself and safely enjoy the Cosplay Communtiy:

Unfortunately, most cosplayers are no stranger to being harassed when out in public. This is especially true for

received_10201747050754434This weekend we’ll be heading out to our favorite new East Coast convention, WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA!

Last year, I was invited to be a panelist on a couple of panels hosted by the gracious con host, Tony Kim (@crazy4comiccon). Tony had me on a general geek trivia and Star Wars panel, both of which were a lot of fun and very well recieved by the audiences. Although, I did get “scolded” by one boy’s mother for teaching him how to respond to her using Darth Sideous’ “No no nooo”. Good times.
This year, I’ll be a panelist on two more panels along with fellow blog/podcasters/nerds, Ben from Next Level Radio, Rob from Caffeine Crew, Cait Pringle a Philly nerd par excellance (did I spel thet rite?), comedian Craig Liggeons, and our good friend, Janice Lai of Ghost Hunters fame (okay, so she was on one episode, but that’s more airtime than all the background acting I’ve done in the last 5 years combined!).
So, here’s the list of panel’s Tony will be hosting. I will be on the panels for Thursday and Saturday, both at 6pm. Also, don’t forget to check back with us next week for our cosplay coverage!

Rhode Island Comic Con 2014

Banner

This year’s Rhode Island Comic Con was a general success.  The Comic Con attendance greatly exceeded the organizer’s expected turnout compared to all prior years.  In fact, the Rhode Island Convention Center exceeded their expected numbers compared to all other events… ever!  (Nerd pride.)  However, the convention was not without problems.  You can read about the over-capacity debacle here:

https://nerd-base.com/2014/11/02/rhode-island-comic-con-2014-exceeds-capacity-fans-stuck-out-in-the-rain/

But for now, let’s focus on the other experiences, which were generally positive.  The con took place on November 1st – 2nd with a Halloween party the night before (on Halloween).  The party was decently attended.  I enjoyed the drink list which had tasty choices such as the Ecto-1, the Ooze, and the Beetlegeuise.  And of course, it was a great place for the cosplay to begin.

Ladies of Cosplay – Carrie Wink

cosplaybannerOur Lady of Cosplay this week was recommended by contributor Sarah! Meet Carrie Wink! She’s a beautiful, talented lady who’s been cosplaying for over a decade, has her own online business, and is a convention pro! She is quite the busy gal, and attends a good amount of conventions each year, so, we were thrilled to get an interview with her, and get our hands on some of her amazing pictures!

Ladies of Cosplay – Nicci Fett

This Lady of Cosplay didn’t even realize that she was a ‘cosplayer’ until people started labeling her as one! Meet Nicci Fett! Nicci is a friend of Nerd-Base founder Christopher, and it was obvious why we wanted to pick her as a Lady of Cosplay. She’s stunningly gorgeous, wickedly talented, and hilarious. Nerd-Base was lucky enough to get not only an interview, but a good amount of amazing photographs of Nicci doing what she does best (among other things, I’m sure). Showcasing her amazing projects that she wears, or, as the rest of us call it – Cosplaying.

Wizard World Philly 2014: Cosplay Edition

nb wwp banner CosplayWe didn’t make it to the show for the whole shebang this year, but at least we caught the last day.

Not a lot of Cosplayers were in attendance on Sunday, but there weren’t a lot of attendees period either, which was actually kind of nice. We could walk, talk and breathe without getting tired. It was really nice to be able to stretch out and enjoy a big con for once without the constant bumping and shoving that usually ensues. We met a few awesome people, saw a lot of great art, bought a few good collectables, and managed to snap a few of the cosplayers that were around…which I present to you now:  Continue reading Wizard World Philly 2014: Cosplay Edition
