Last night I was in the presence of Film and Martial Arts greatness. Jackie Chan was at the Lincoln Film Center presenting his new movie Chinese Zodiac. In my teens and throughout my 20’s Jackie Chan was one of my heroes. His talents in Martial Arts and Comedy combined together to make one of the greatest entertainers to appear in our life time. His charm and comedic timing showed up on stage last night to create an awesome evening for all in attendance.

Microsoft just sold me on buying a PS4
A few weeks ago Microsoft finally announced the successor to the Xbox 360. The new console, the Xbox One, is slated for release later this year. I’ve been a diehard Xbox fan since the original Xbox for a few reasons including the size of their controllers over Sony’s Dual Shock controllers. That all being said, MS might be pushing me towards using Sony’s small controllers with their 24 hour connectivity checks.
Anime Boston 2013
For the past several years Anime Boston has been my favorite Anime convention. With AB 2013 over, I can easily say that the trend continues. Anime Boston is an annual fan run convention held at the Hynes Convention center in Boston. It’s the 5th largest Anime convention in North America, and the second largest on the east coast behind Otakon. I used to love going to Otakon back in the day, but Otakon became too corporate and took the fun out of everything. By keeping things fan run, it has allowed AB to continue featuring more adult based content, and events that Otakon tossed aside years ago.
Evil Don’t
If I have one giant pet peeve in any narrative story, it’s when smart people do really dumb things to help advance the plot. Sometimes I can turn my brain off and forgive certain things, but not when the entire plot of your film is predicated on bad mistakes. In a recent IO9 article, they asked Bruce Campbell about the secrets of great film-making. He responded
“I think horror movies are better if people give a shit, and make a decent movie. I feel like there’s lazy film-makers in general out there. I [would like] a little more industrious film-making, please. I just think they need to work a little harder, pay attention, and don’t treat audiences like they’re stupid.”
I wish director Fede Alvarez would have followed that basic rule in making this film. To be fair Evil Dead isn’t all bad. It has some great moments in the middle of the flick, but the beginning and the end surpass my ability to suspend disbelief.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation wasn’t good . . . It was great!
If I was to ask you if you to choose between Stephen Sommers the director of the Mummy movies, and Van Helsing, or Jon Chu the director of Step Up 2, Step Up 3D, and the Justin Bieber documentary, to helm a G.I. Joe movie, chances are you would choose wrong. Jon Chu, known mostly for directing music related films knocked it out of the park with G.I. Joe: Retaliation. It completely wiped the craptastic taste out of my mouth that I had thanks to the Sommers movie, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.
As a fan of the Larry Hama comic and the original cartoon, I had a lot of problems with Continue reading
