Hero Within: Geek Chic’s Next Level

Today is a special day.

My friend Tony, who is very well integrated in the nerd world (he hosts many panels all over the US, including San Diego Comic Con, and runs his own blog ‘Crazy4ComicCon‘), is bringing fashion and geekiness together with a line of nerdy clothing for men with a slight twist on what we’re used to.

I met Tony a few years ago through common fandoms and interests on social media, and officially at Philly Wizard World when he had reached out to me regarding panels he was set to host, and looking for knowledgeable nerds for panelists, and knew I had quite a few connections. Since then, he’s referred to me as his ‘Nick Fury’ if you will (Nicolette Fury?). I gather geek professionals for his Philly Wizard World panels, and it’s a blast.

What I’ve always noticed each year I saw Tony, even through pictures that he posts on his many con adventures, is that  Continue reading Hero Within: Geek Chic’s Next Level

Nerd-Base’s Guide To The Fall 2013 TV Lineup

THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR A FEW TV SERIES – CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED

This is a fantastic time in television history to be a geek. Sure in the past we’ve had lots of wonderful and dare I say, legendary shows, but it’s always been one or two shows worth watching at a time. No longer. Our community of fandoms now has a plethora of shows that fit many genres yet somehow all cater to the same “type” of people, which is wonderful. Starting next week, the fall season of television drops like a sledgehammer on our collective psyches and millions of people will be begging for larger storage on their DVRs. Let’s take a look at some of the great new shows and upcoming new seasons of successful mainstays:

One of Marvel NOW’s most anticipated books releases this week, Avengers #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena.  I must say that I’m super excited for this book.  Hickman quickly made Fantastic Four one of my favorite books, so it’ll be great to see what he can do with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.  From DC we see the Rotworld story continue with both Animal Man and Swamp Thing releasing their 15th issues.  Now for some covers.

Animal Man #15

There’s a bunch of stuff happening in comics this week.  On the Marvel side we have another new Marvel NOW! book in Hickman’s FF #1.  We also see the end of Brian Michael Bendis’ many years long run on the Avengers with New Avengers #34.  Sad to see him go, but it’s in great hands with Hickman.  For DC we get the first part of the big Aquaman / Justice League crossover: “Throne of Atlantis”.  It may be hard to believe but with Geoff Johns at the helm Aquaman has been fantastic.  Before Watchman also returns this week with Ozymandias and Silk Spectre.  Lots of great covers this week, here’s a few of them.

Batman Incorporated #5

More great stuff this week.  Marvel NOW! continues with a couple of new books, as well as a few getting their second issues.  DC gives us another chapter in Batman’s “Death of the Family” event as well as their big Superman crossover, “H’el on Earth”.  Here’s my favorite covers this week.  Continue reading Comic Book Covers 11/21/2012

NYCC: Robot Chicken

Many moons ago I came across a funny little stop-motion series called “Sweet J Presents”. A  funny little spot of stop-motion animated toys involved in skits that rode the edges of pop-culture, random acts of violence, and kindergarten level fart jokes. Well, Sweet J grew up (sort of) and built a robot. Then that robot was attached to a chicken. Then it went back to business as usual, albeit with a bigger budget with which to buy more toys. Robot Chicken is now a phenomena unto itself with massive DVD sales of their Star Wars specials, the upcoming release of the new DC Comics special they did, and the newly announced resurrection of the show for a seventh season!!  Continue reading NYCC: Robot Chicken
