Comic Book Covers 11/14/2012

This was a pretty dang big week for comics.  We get 4 new Marvel NOW! titles released, and the conclusion of Ultimate Comics’ “United We Stand” storyline.  On the DC side we get the latest chapter of Scott Snyder’s “Death of the Family” Batman crossover.  Let’s get to some covers.

All New X-Men #1

Cover by Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, and Marte Garcia

Variant Cover by Skottie Young

First off, I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the title of the book.  All-New works for now, but what happens 12 issues in when it’s not so new anymore?  Regardless, I’m pretty excited about this book.  Brian Michael Bendis writing the X-Men?  Sign me up please.  Add in some Stuart Immonen art and I think you have a pretty darn good recipe.  This first issues also comes with a pretty sweet wraparound cover.

Fantastic Four #1

Variant Cover by Skottie Young

Matt Fraction really has his work cut out for him.  Jonathon Hickman’s run on Fantastic Four, and it’s sister book FF is one of the most best, most epic comic series I’ve read in a while.  His stories covered years, and introduced multiple awesome characters.  Fraction is fresh off his work on the great Iron Man series, so let’s hope he keeps the momentum going.  As far as this cover, Baby Galactus!  So good!

X-Men Legacy #1

Variant Cover by Skottie Young

Of all the Marvel NOW! titles, this is among the ones that I’m not immediately grabbed by.  Simon Spurrier isn’t a name that jumps out at me, but I’m more than willing to give it a fair shot.  He has a great starting point using Legion as a main character.  For those who aren’t aware, Legion is Professor Xavier’s son.  He’s also super crazy.  Legion is a schizophrenic, with countless personalities living in his brain.  Each personality has it’s own distinct super power, and he call on them as needed.  Hopefully he can stay sane long enough to do some good.

Thor: God of Thunder #1

Three covers for one title, and all superb!  I’m a big Thor fan, but the thing i love isn’t solely Thor himself but his great cast of supporting characters.  Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg (The Warriors Three), Sif, Loki, Heimdall, Hela, Tyr, and Odin among others.  I do hope that Jason Aaron draws on these great characters for his run and doesn’t focus solely on Thor.

Gambit #5

Cover by Terry Dodson

Everyone’s favorite Cajun thief got his own ongoing title a couple of months ago, and it has been quite entertaining thus far.  The first arc was penciled by Clay Mann, so quite obviously it was a pleasure to look at.  This great cover by Terry Dodson alludes to the fact that the newest story arc will see Gambit interacting with Pete Wisdom and MI-13.  Off to England for the Cajun!

Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates #18

Cover by Michael Komarck

This cover is so good!  Just look at it.  This issue is the conclusion of the “Divided We Fall / United We Stand” story arc and it really shook up the Ultimate universe.  Captain America is President, Kitty Pryde is leading a mutant enclave in the southwest.  Let’s see where we go from here.

Batgirl #14

Cover by Ed Benes

Everyone’s favorite clown has returned!  “Death of the Family” is the current huge Bat crossover that will be going on for the next few months.  Scott Snyder really nailed it with “Night of the Owls”, so I have high hopes for this.

So, what do you think?
