Nerd-Base’s Guide To The Fall 2013 TV Lineup

THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR A FEW TV SERIES – CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED

This is a fantastic time in television history to be a geek. Sure in the past we’ve had lots of wonderful and dare I say, legendary shows, but it’s always been one or two shows worth watching at a time. No longer. Our community of fandoms now has a plethora of shows that fit many genres yet somehow all cater to the same “type” of people, which is wonderful. Starting next week, the fall season of television drops like a sledgehammer on our collective psyches and millions of people will be begging for larger storage on their DVRs. Let’s take a look at some of the great new shows and upcoming new seasons of successful mainstays:

Skottie Young’s Infinity #1 Variant Cover

In case you’re not savvy to the current Marvel Now! stories, there’s a mini-series going on now that, although a pretty fun read, is pretty obviously being made solely to explain who the character was at the end of Avengers (Thanos,  who is the main antagonist of the Infinity series), and how he ties into the Guardians of the Galaxy movie which comes out next year (READ: Filling in all the folks on what GotG is and why they should be excited about it), of which Thanos is rumored to be the main villain in.

Infinity is more or less a “world ending” event tie-ing in the stories of the Avengers, New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy from the past year.  The effects of the Infinity storyline will lead in to a comic event titled Inhumanity detailing the after-effects of the famous Terrigen Mists covering the world and activating dormant “Inhuman” genes in individuals around the world. So, expect a few new heroes/villains to pop up over the next few months!

Well, issue number one is out, and it has perhaps the best Skottie Young cover yet, and I’ll be honest, the only reason I wrote this post is because I saw it and got so excited I felt the compulsion to share!

So, if any of you find the actual art, or a decent sized print of this, you either buy it for me and I’ll love you forever, or at least email me and point me in the right direction, because this is amazing!!

Review: Kill City Blues – A Sandman Slim Novel by Richard Kadrey

Kill-City-Blues1I read a lot. In the past year or so I’ve ingested over 100 books, so imagine how excited I was to find that our little site here was catching enough eyes for Harper Collins to ask us if we’d like some books to review. Granted, mostly I’ve caught up on a lot of the classics, I read all 7 books in Asimov’s Foundation series, most of the books in the adjoining Robot series, some of Heinlein’s best works, a little Jules Verne, a few old AD&D stories, got halfway through the Sword of Truth series and started reading through the Wheel of Time books. So I wondered to myself upon its arrival, especially with the dust cover boasting admonitions from the likes of Cory Doctorow and William Gibson, how I’d never heard of Richard Kadrey or his Sandman Slim books. Especially considering how good this one is. Continue reading

‘Sharknado’ Was Absolutely Terrible In The Best Way Possible

The only reason I can imagine that you don’t know about The Asylum’s latest  opus, Sharknado, would be that you didn’t touch any social media platforms in the past week. If SyFy (I still hate that name switch) had put this much effort into promoting series like Stargate Universe, the show’s ratings would have likely been more than enough to keep it going….not that I’m sore about that or anything. Still, I think the ramped up ridiculous-ness of this “series” of mega-monster films is definitely to thank for its popularity and presence in our collective social consciousness. It’s become not unlike a bad joke that you just keep telling hoping that it will somehow get funny. Mostly, that doesn’t work. With last night’s premiere of Sharknado it absolutely did.weather dot sharknado Continue reading
