With the release of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropping earlier this week, and the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi due out in a few days, nerd-dom is at its highest of levels right now. And while I cannot wait to see The Last Jedi in theaters on opening day, I’ve come to realize that I am more excited for Avengers than I am for Star Wars.
To some, this may seem sacrilegious. The franchises aren’t even in the same category or genre. How can they even be compared? Continue reading →
In case you’re not savvy to the current Marvel Now! stories, there’s a mini-series going on now that, although a pretty fun read, is pretty obviously being made solely to explain who the character was at the end of Avengers (Thanos, who is the main antagonist of the Infinity series), and how he ties into the Guardians of the Galaxy movie which comes out next year (READ: Filling in all the folks on what GotG is and why they should be excited about it), of which Thanos is rumored to be the main villain in.
Infinity is more or less a “world ending” event tie-ing in the stories of the Avengers, New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy from the past year. The effects of the Infinity storyline will lead in to a comic event titled Inhumanity detailing the after-effects of the famous Terrigen Mists covering the world and activating dormant “Inhuman” genes in individuals around the world. So, expect a few new heroes/villains to pop up over the next few months!
Well, issue number one is out, and it has perhaps the best Skottie Young cover yet, and I’ll be honest, the only reason I wrote this post is because I saw it and got so excited I felt the compulsion to share!
So, if any of you find the actual art, or a decent sized print of this, you either buy it for me and I’ll love you forever, or at least email me and point me in the right direction, because this is amazing!!
Here’s the trailer for the new Avengers cartoon on Disney XD. I liked the previous series, kind of sad they cancelled it. The design and appearance here doesn’t seem too different, but I’m not sure I like it as much, the odd, off proportions look a little too “kiddy”(?), like they’ve drawn action figures rather than comic book characters, then again, I didn’t think I’d like the previous cartoon either! I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see! What do you think?

One of Marvel NOW’s most anticipated books releases this week, Avengers #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. I must say that I’m super excited for this book. Hickman quickly made Fantastic Four one of my favorite books, so it’ll be great to see what he can do with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. From DC we see the Rotworld story continue with both Animal Man and Swamp Thing releasing their 15th issues. Now for some covers.
There’s a bunch of stuff happening in comics this week. On the Marvel side we have another new Marvel NOW! book in Hickman’s FF #1. We also see the end of Brian Michael Bendis’ many years long run on the Avengers with New Avengers #34. Sad to see him go, but it’s in great hands with Hickman. For DC we get the first part of the big Aquaman / Justice League crossover: “Throne of Atlantis”. It may be hard to believe but with Geoff Johns at the helm Aquaman has been fantastic. Before Watchman also returns this week with Ozymandias and Silk Spectre. Lots of great covers this week, here’s a few of them.
More great stuff this week. Marvel NOW! continues with a couple of new books, as well as a few getting their second issues. DC gives us another chapter in Batman’s “Death of the Family” event as well as their big Superman crossover, “H’el on Earth”. Here’s my favorite covers this week. Continue reading →
There was only one special variant cover this week, but I do believe it’s my favorite one. X-23 is a great character and I was pretty bummed when her book was cancelled. At least we can still follow her exploits in Avengers Academy.
This week in comics saw the “final” issues of quite a few Marvel books including Captain America, Fantastic Four, and Invincible Iron Man. The final is in quotes because the books will be back next month with new creators as #1 issues. This did lead to some nice variants being released though, especially the two collage ones on this list. Continue reading →
