Here at Nerd-Base, we not only appreciate the amazing cosplayers, but we also love the nerdy ladies as well! Not to say that cosplayers can’t be nerdy, or vice versa, but sometimes there’s amazing, beautiful, nerdy women who aren’t into cosplaying, and we want to celebrate them as well!
Meet our very first Nerd Babe – Jess! Not only is she nerdy & gorgeous, but she’s smart, talented, and caring. I first met Jess when I worked at a very popular radio station in Philadelphia (93.3 WMMR, specifically Preston & Steve). We were on a promotions team together, and even did an Avengers themed photoshoot together a few years back (which you’ll see some photos from that shoot in this article)! If this is the droid you’re looking for, read on to find out more about Jess and see some brilliant photos of this Nerd Babe!

There’s a bunch of stuff happening in comics this week. On the Marvel side we have another new Marvel NOW! book in Hickman’s FF #1. We also see the end of Brian Michael Bendis’ many years long run on the Avengers with New Avengers #34. Sad to see him go, but it’s in great hands with Hickman. For DC we get the first part of the big Aquaman / Justice League crossover: “Throne of Atlantis”. It may be hard to believe but with Geoff Johns at the helm Aquaman has been fantastic. Before Watchman also returns this week with Ozymandias and Silk Spectre. Lots of great covers this week, here’s a few of them.
To be quite honest, I didn’t think any DC books would be making this list this month, because I’m not such a fan of the 0 issue cover styles. They’re all essentially the same, just the main character jumping out at you. It doesn’t really give the artist too much to work with. This one I really liked though, it’s an awesome shot of Frank getting ready to mess someone’s day up really badly.
X-Men Legacy #273
Cover by Mark Brooks
This cover is so good, it’s essentially Rogue riding Battle Cat. That’s really all the explanation needed for it being up here.
Captain America & Black Widow #636
Cover by Francesco Francavilla
Francesco Francavilla kicks butts. His work on Black Panther: Man Without Fear was one of the main draws for that book. Combine that with the fact that Captain America is my favorite hero and this one makes the list.
Here are my favorite covers from the current week of comics.
The Mighty Thor #19
Cover by Alan Davis
Not everyone likes him, but I’m kind of a sucker for Alan Davis art. I especially like the way that he draws Thor, and this cover is another great rendition.
Hawkeye #2 Cover by David Aja
I love David Aja’s work, and his covers during his run on Immortal Iron Fist remain some of my favorite. I was pumped to learn that he would be working with Matt Fraction again, this time on Hawkeye. As this cover shows, he doesn’t disappoint.
Variant Cover by Skottie Young
It’s Skottie Young, and for me personally that’s really all that’s necessary for this cover to be on the list. It’s a variant cover celebrating Spidey’s 50th Anniversary, and it’s fantastic.
