Galavant.. I haven’t laughed so hard in MINUTES.

♫ Nerd-Base will review
a little show for you
and that show is called Galavant! ♫

Ever since the previews first ran for ABC’s 8 episode mini-series Galavant (which was sort of a spot holder for Once Upon A Time), I had been anxiously waiting for the premiere. Not only did it look hilarious, but the cast included Timothy Omundson, Ricky Gervais, John Stamos, Weird Al, and Anthony Head! With a stellar cast like that, this obviously wasn’t something I could just pass up even though I currently watch about 10 shows at the moment.

As the first episode premiered, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew it was a musical, and I knew it was a comedy. Right away, it started out with Continue reading

GISHWHES 2014

gishbannerTwo weeks ago I (as well as Nerd-Base member Chris) participated in the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen, also known as GISHWHES. Although I’ve been a fan of Misha Collins for some time now, this was my first year participating in this worldwide record breaking scavenger hunt.

I was actually put in a group without my knowledge. Not to say I didn’t want to participate, but every year I seemed to have made up excuses to get out of joining in the fun. Perhaps I was a bit nervous about breaking out of my shell and doing weird things in public? Last year I was on a road trip with Chris. We probably could have participated but it would likely be a lot harder to tackle most of the items. This year I’m unemployed and broke, but I’m glad I was pushed into doing it.

A couple of our friends that live in North Carolina started the group and invited us to join their team, Mischief Mismanaged. We were short four people, so the folks who help run GISHWHES placed another small team with our group – some lovely young ladies from Canada. Any time teams are combined, the team names are combined with the word ‘loves’. So, our official team name ended up being Mischief-MismanagedlovesWinging-it.

GISHWHES

gishwhesAs you look at the title you may be thinking, “Are the writers of Nerd-Base drunk or something?” Well, first of all, that’s none of your business, second, GISHWHES stands for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. It was created by actor/humanitarian/overlord Misha Collins (who plays Castiel in the hit TV show Supernatural).

If you’re the type of person who hates fun, meeting new people, and all around making your life more exciting, then don’t read on. GISHWHES is not for everyone, and that’s okay. I mean, not everyone enjoys living their life to the fullest. Some people just like to live vicariously through other people who have fun. We are in a techy world, after all! Maybe you enjoy having fun, but you’re a bit shy or introverted. GISHWHES is actually Continue reading

An Evening With John Barrowman at NYCC.

It’s 6:30pm at NYCC and folks were either at The Walking Dead panel (which I am pretty bummed out that I missed) or the John Barrowman panel. Unfortunately, the two were at the same exact time, and it was a tough decision, but after that very quick hour with Barrowman, I knew I had made the right call.

John entered the stage and the entire room cheered, applauded, and stood up out of their seats in order to get a glimpse at the one and only, John Barrowman. He was bursting with energy, and put a smile on everyone’s face instantly.  John is such a geek fanboy and you could see how appreciative he was that everyone was there for him, and even said, “I didn’t expect that I was going to be so popular here!”

Before he began his Q&A session with the fans, he took out his tablet and announced that at every panel he makes a video to send to his mom & dad (cue the entire room’s “awwwww”). While he was attempting to set up the video on his tablet, he was still engaging the audience and cracking jokes because he knew time was precious at a large event like this.

As he finally got his video feature set up, he requested that we do two things. The first was to cheer and wave hello to his mom & dad, and the second request was for his niece who recently had a baby named Finnegan, and he wanted us to say “Hi, Finnegan!” When he was explaining this to us, he accidentally said, “Can you all shite… SHITE? Actually, when she had the baby she felt like she was having a big shite, I can tell you that!” I would pay to see this man Continue reading
