Galavant.. I haven’t laughed so hard in MINUTES.

♫ Nerd-Base will review
a little show for you
and that show is called Galavant! ♫

Ever since the previews first ran for ABC’s 8 episode mini-series Galavant (which was sort of a spot holder for Once Upon A Time), I had been anxiously waiting for the premiere. Not only did it look hilarious, but the cast included Timothy Omundson, Ricky Gervais, John Stamos, Weird Al, and Anthony Head! With a stellar cast like that, this obviously wasn’t something I could just pass up even though I currently watch about 10 shows at the moment.

As the first episode premiered, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew it was a musical, and I knew it was a comedy. Right away, it started out with a song, of course. Already catchy and already funny. Not even 5 minutes into the show, King Richard (Omundson) is talking to his bride about how they’re going to “do it”…but in a comical and silly way… this show was already up my alley. We also see Luke Youngblood aka “Pop Pop!” from Community as Galavant’s squire, and Vinnie Jones (Arrow, Snatch, X-Men: The Last Stand) play’s the King’s right hand man, Gareth.

King Richard is childish, egotistical, and not the sharpest tool in the shed (much like most Kings), but he is also very lovable, fun, and hilarious. The plot is your basic run of the mill fairytale. Kings, Knights, kidnapping, singing, dancing. You know, the usual. Anyways, King Richard (or Dicky) kidnaps a beautiful young woman (Mallory Jansen) and she becomes his Queen (and doesn’t put up much of a fight), even when Galavant (Joshua Sasse) comes to her rescue. Heartbroken and hopeful, Galavant takes on an adventure with his squire (Luke Youngblood) and Princess Isabella (Karen David) to win her back and get his revenge on the King.

Originally, I had been anxious for Galavant because of all of the celebrity cameos/appearances. After watching a couple of episodes, even though I was still excited when they were on screen, they hadn’t even crossed my mind. John Stamos, who plays Sir Jean Hamm (ha!) had a very brief cameo, and to be honest, the name was really the only funny part he had. My favorite appearance was by Ricky Gervais. He has mystical powers and goes by the name Xanax. Both the name AND the character were funny. If ABC decides to do a second season, I hope his character appears again!

With ballads like, “Maybe You’re Not the Worst Thing Ever” by composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) and lyricist Glenn Slater (Tangled), this show has a fun sense of humor mixed with the classic fairy tale feel.

They packed so much into these 8 short episodes, but it still leaves us wanting more!

Speaking of Galavant and Timothy Omundson, I had one of the coolest things happen to me via twitter.

I’m a fangirl. This is no surprise to anyone who knows me, or anyone who follows me on any of my social media accounts. I’ve been crushing on Misha Collins (of the Supernatural fame) for almost 3 years now, and more recently I’ve developed a crush on King Richard himself, Timothy Omundson (that beard though).

I had decided to be silly on twitter, not really thinking either Timothy or Misha would take notice, but I had said:

Newest celebrity crush: @Omundson…sorry @mishacollins

Much to my surprise, that night I saw that Timothy Omundson had done the ‘quote retweet’ thing, where he replied publicly:

I was smiling ear to ear when I saw this, and went to bed a very happy lady.

The next morning, I went to work…checking email, sipping coffee, my normal thing, and when I had a break I had decided to check twitter. 34 notifications. “Something….happened…” I thought to myself. Before I fully realized what was going on my friend Jenn had texted me saying, “OMG Misha replied.” Still in disbelief, I quickly went to Misha’s twitter account to see what was said:

Misha had not only retweeted what Timothy had said to me (with my twitter handle included), but had made a separate tweet about it. How on earth could I focus on work after all of this!? If you’re not a fangirl, it’s likely hard for you to understand the feeling. Imagine two of your biggest celebrity crushes fighting for your affection. Although this was a joke, I thought I’d ride a unicorn on Asgard before having two of my biggest celebrity crushes acknowledge me on twitter. Sure, some fans get replies from celebrities, and that is an amazing feeling, but the have it go to this level? I was on cloud 9 for the entire day, heck, I still am.

That alone had made me totally lose focus on everything I was doing, but then the banter KEPT GOING. I wasn’t included in the posts, which was perfectly fine, but the fact that I had basically started this fun banter between the two men gave me a natural high.

I apologize future children of mine, but this is my greatest accomplishment.
