Doctor Sleep

hallI don’t remember how old I was when I first saw The Shining.  I’m guessing I wasn’t that much older than little Danny Torrance from the film.  When I got older, and I got into Stephen King books for the second time, I went back and listened to (I’m a huge audio book fan) The Shining, and while it was a very different book from the movie, it was still really good.  I’m not sure which I prefer better, but they were both excellent in their respective ways.

Most Stephen King books end with me wanting more.  I usually want to know what happened to the characters after they’ve endured the madness the author subjects them to.  Both versions of The Shining left me wondering what happened to young Danny Torrance after all that he experienced at The Overlook Hotel.  Over the years Stephen King thought about that same question, and he came up with a pretty good answer in Doctor Sleep.

Canceling my PS4 pre-order

Sony-PS4-OfficialRecently I’ve been having serious thoughts about canceling my PS4 pre-order from Amazon.   There are fewer and fewer games at launch that I’m interested in with the recent game delay announcements of Drive Club and Watch Dogs.  I know I will probably get a PS4 at some point but I’m not entirely sure I need one right now.   One of the many things the PS4 still has going for it are the non-retail PSN games.  There are many games that will be downloadable day 1, but a lot of those games are either available on PC or another platform already.  I know I’m definitely keeping my Xbox One pre-order because Microsoft has a few exclusives I know I want to play, and I like the TV integration aspect of the system.  I decided to create a comparison chart using IGN’s launch title wiki to compare the retail games side by side.

Will the real WikiLeaks please stand up?

the-fifth-estate-movie-reviewRecently I watched The Fifth Estate starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.  Cumberbatch completely nailed Assange’s odd speaking pattern, which irked me through large chunks of the movie.  All in all I liked the film, but I just had a nagging feeling that this wasn’t an accurate portrayal of how things really went down.  Assange himself has spoken ill against the film after reading the leaked script saying that it’s  “irresponsible, counterproductive and harmful.”, but I can’t just take his word for it either. So I did a bit of investigating and here’s what I found.

Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book

IMGP3961Over the summer, Grumpy cat found time in between naps and “No’s!” to put out a kids book.  Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book is a 96 page book full of Grumpy Cat Meme’s, pictures, and activities.  The activities are mostly word puzzles, coloring, mazes, or connect the dot games.  It’s the type of book that parents who are fans of Grumpy Cat will buy for themselves but can also share with their children for the activities.
