Robotech Love Live Alive

LovelivealiveThe Robotech Masters at Harmony Gold have released a new movie, Robotech Love Live Alive.  Going back to when I was a child, the only thing that came close to my love for Transformers, was Robotech.  There were probably times where I loved Robotech more.  I didn’t know exactly what this was going to be before I picked it up, but I was hoping that I would magically fold space and time back to my childhood.  I had been waiting for new Robotech ever since Shadow Chronicles back in 2006 so I was sold on whatever Robotech Live Love Alive turned out to be.  Unfortunately this release malfunctioned and I folded space straight into an asteroid.

Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin is my favorite anime of all time so warning – this may be a slightly biased movie review.  Having said that, I am also a purist and can dole out serious criticism.  For instance:

Utter crap.

Rurouni Kenshin is a good movie with some great qualities.  It respects the manga and anime by staying faithful to the main story, good acting, awesome action, and most of all, brilliant casting… but I’ll get back to that in a minute.

The basic story centers on Kenshin, a ronin repenting from his years as a master killer at the end of the Tokugawa era, about ten years Continue reading

Anime Boston 2013

AB 2013For the past several years Anime Boston has been my favorite Anime convention.  With AB 2013 over, I can easily say that the trend continues.  Anime Boston is an annual fan run convention held at the Hynes Convention center in Boston.  It’s the 5th largest Anime convention in North America, and the second largest on the east coast behind Otakon.  I used to love going to Otakon back in the day, but Otakon became too corporate and took the fun out of everything.  By keeping things fan run, it has allowed AB to continue featuring more adult based content, and events that Otakon tossed aside years ago.

DuckTales! Some Re-makes Aren’t So Bad!

Here’s a game that many of us played and loved….perhaps more than we realized.

I wasn’t a big fan of the mainstream Disney characters. To this day, if you were to ask me what my favorite classic Disney cartoons are, I’d still say The Black Cauldron, The Sword and the Stoneand Fantasia. Mickey Mouse never did it for me, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, etc. Not really a fan. But there was just something about DuckTales that clicked. It was a fun, well made series. The best thing to come out of it, however, was the video game that came out in 1989 for the NES.

Games based on popular licensed properties have RARELY been good. Sure, there are exceptions like Star Wars: Knights of the Old RepublicChronicles of Riddick, and the recent Walking Dead titles. But notice…those are all *new* (do I need to mention the LOST game?). Back in the day, the NES days, production companies would license anything and everything. Just to make more cash. To them it was no more different or important on the consumer end than slapping a decal on a t-shirt. Little effort and less love was put into most of them. *cough*E.T.*cough*. DuckTales, however, changed that.  Continue reading
